The Walled Garden, Richmond
Set behind a beautiful Victorian property in Richmond, this project required more than a pergola, it required a carefully engineered solution that could wrap around a two-tiered extension without compromising the most important view in the house.
The client's brief was clear: whatever was installed, it could not interrupt the sightline from the kitchen and patio across the garden. In a space this naturally beautiful, that was a non-negotiable.

Working in close collaboration with Renson and the client's structural engineer, we designed a hybrid solution combining the Renson Algarve pergola with a canvas roof system, a bespoke configuration that addressed the technical constraints of the build while meeting the aesthetic requirements of the space. The framework and roof blades were finished in custom RAL colours, RAL 7023 and RAL 7044 respectively, chosen to sit quietly against the warm London brick and mature planting rather than compete with it.
The result is a sheltered outdoor dining and entertaining space that feels like a natural extension of the garden itself, perfectly suited to lazy weekend mornings and long lunches in one of Richmond's most characterful private gardens.
